Course Content
Health & Safety
Learners will develop advanced knowledge of monitoring and maintaining health and safety practice within a professional salon or barbershop. Training focuses on carrying out risk assessments, identifying hazards, implementing safe working procedures, monitoring compliance with legislation and supporting colleagues to maintain a safe, hygienic and professional working environment.
Consultation & Client Care
Learners will develop professional consultation skills to identify client objectives, analyse hair and facial hair characteristics, evaluate influencing factors and recommend suitable barbering services. Training also develops effective communication, personalised service planning, accurate record keeping and comprehensive aftercare advice to achieve successful client outcomes.
Hair Cutting Techniques
Training focuses on creating personalised men’s hairstyles using advanced barbering techniques. Learners will develop expertise in combining scissor, clipper and texturising techniques to create individual looks on wet, dry, straight and curly hair while adapting services to suit each client’s hair characteristics, style objectives and personal image.
Beard Grooming & Shaping
Learners will develop specialist skills in creating a variety of facial hair shapes using professional barbering techniques. Training includes advanced beard and moustache design, precision outlining, shaping, detailing and adapting services to suit facial features, hair characteristics and individual client preferences while providing appropriate maintenance advice.
Hair Finishing & Styling
Learners will develop the ability to refine and personalise completed barbering services using advanced finishing techniques and professional styling products. Training emphasises achieving balanced, commercial results while recommending suitable home care products and aftercare advice to help clients maintain their haircut and facial hair between appointments.
Professional Practice
Learners will develop the professional behaviours expected of advanced barbers, including maintaining high standards of health and safety, delivering exceptional client care, communicating professionally, working effectively within a salon environment and continuously improving technical and commercial barbering skills to meet industry expectations.

There are no formal prerequisite qualifications required to undertake this course. However, learners should have a good standard of practical barbering skills, literacy and communication together with an interest in developing advanced barbering techniques.
Duration
This qualification consists of 105 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) and 130 Total Qualification Time (TQT).
Costs
The cost of the course is £3200.00, plus a £150 registration fee.
Qualification Awarded
Upon successful completion of all required assessments and portfolio evidence, learners will receive the VTCT Skills Level 3 Certificate in Barbering.

Learners must attend all training sessions in professional attire appropriate to the training environment, consisting of a tunic (where applicable), black trousers and closed-toe shoes.
