Health & Safety

Learners will develop advanced knowledge of safe, hygienic and effective working practices required within a professional barbering environment. Training covers risk assessment, infection prevention and control, safe use and maintenance of barbering equipment, legislative responsibilities, client protection, workplace hygiene and maintaining professional standards throughout every barbering service. Practical activities reinforce compliance with current industry legislation, organisational procedures and best practice.

Consultation & Client Care

Learners will develop advanced consultation skills to assess client objectives, analyse hair, skin and scalp conditions, identify contraindications, develop bespoke service plans and provide professional recommendations. Training also focuses on effective communication, obtaining informed consent, maintaining accurate client records and delivering comprehensive pre- and post-service advice to achieve safe and successful treatment outcomes.

Hair Cutting Techniques

Training focuses on combining advanced barbering cutting and clipper techniques to create personalised restyled looks. Learners will develop precision skills in advanced scissor work, clipper work, blending, tapering, fading, texturising and creative haircut design while adapting techniques to suit individual client characteristics, hair types and style objectives.

Beard Grooming & Shaping

Learners will develop specialist skills in designing and creating advanced facial hair shapes to complement individual facial features and client preferences. Training includes precision shaping, contouring, blending, detailing and achieving balanced beard and moustache designs using professional barbering techniques and industry-standard equipment.

Hair Finishing & Styling

Learners will develop the ability to complete advanced barbering services using professional finishing techniques, styling products and traditional straight razor shaving methods. Training focuses on achieving high-quality presentation, refining bespoke looks and providing tailored aftercare advice to support long-lasting client satisfaction.

Professional Practice

Learners will develop the professional behaviours expected of specialist barbers, including advanced client care, effective communication, commercial awareness, teamwork, continuous professional development and maintaining exceptional standards of personal presentation and workplace professionalism. Optional units also support the development of creative, promotional and freelance business skills.

Entry Requirement

Completion of a Level 2 Hairdressing or Barbering qualification is strongly recommended. However, learners with relevant prior qualifications or significant industry experience may also be considered for entry.

Duration

This qualification consists of 550 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) and 730 Total Qualification Time (TQT).

Costs

The cost of the course is £3200.00, plus a £150 registration fee.

Qualification Awarded

Upon successful completion of all required assessments and portfolio evidence, learners will receive the VTCT Skills Level 3 Diploma in Barbering.

KIT Required
