Course Content
Health & Safety
Learners will develop the knowledge and practical ability required to identify salon hazards, evaluate risks and carry out nail services in accordance with health and safety legislation, workplace policies and manufacturers’ instructions. Training includes infection prevention, personal protective equipment, COSHH compliance, safe handling and storage of products, equipment safety, waste disposal, client protection and maintaining a clean and secure working environment.
Nail Anatomy & Treatment Principles
Learners will study the structure and functions of the skin and nails, nail growth, common nail conditions, contra-indications, contra-actions and factors that may affect nail treatments. They will also develop an understanding of professional products, tools and techniques used during manicure, pedicure, nail art and nail enhancement services.
Client Consultation & Nail Analysis
Learners will develop professional consultation skills to identify client needs and expectations, analyse the natural nails and surrounding skin, recognise contra-indications, agree treatment objectives and select appropriate products and techniques. Accurate client records, confidentiality, informed consent and effective communication will be maintained throughout the service.
Practical Manicure & Pedicure Services
Practical training includes preparing the client and treatment area, removing existing nail finishes, filing and shaping the nails, cuticle care, buffing, exfoliation, skin treatments, massage techniques and applying suitable nail finishes. Learners will be assessed on their ability to perform services safely, hygienically and to professional commercial standards.
Nail Art & Nail Enhancement Techniques
Learners will develop practical skills in designing and applying nail art and in applying and maintaining nail enhancements to create a natural finish. Training includes natural nail preparation, product application, shaping, maintenance, infill procedures, safe removal, troubleshooting and achieving a professional finished appearance.
Salon Reception, Retail & Teamwork
Learners will gain experience in welcoming clients, managing enquiries, making appointments, handling payments and maintaining the salon reception area. They will also learn how to promote additional services and products, work effectively with colleagues, respond to feedback and contribute positively to salon performance.
Treatment Aftercare & Professional Practice
Learners will provide professional aftercare advice, recommend suitable products and maintenance routines, explain possible contra-actions and advise clients on protecting their natural nails and nail enhancements. They will also maintain professional conduct, client confidentiality, accurate records and effective time management.

Course Structure
This qualification consists of 8 mandatory units and no optional units. Learners must successfully complete all 8 mandatory units and achieve a minimum of 40 credits to achieve the full qualification.

Qualification Awarded
Upon successful completion of all mandatory units, practical observations, external question papers and portfolio evidence, learners will receive the VTCT Skills Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Nail Services.
