Course Content

  • Braid, twist and thread wrap hair (optional)
  • Apply temporary hair attachments to enhance a style (optional)

  • Provide basic business support and services (optional)
  • Instruct and advise on products and services (optional)

Health & Safety

Learners will develop the knowledge and practical skills required to implement and maintain safe, hygienic and effective working practices throughout every barbering service. Training covers infection prevention and control, safe use and maintenance of barbering equipment, risk assessment, personal protective equipment, client protection, legislative requirements, workplace hygiene and professional responsibilities to ensure a safe working environment for both clients and practitioners.

Consultation & Client Care

Learners will develop professional consultation skills to assess client requirements, analyse the hair and scalp, identify contraindications, discuss treatment objectives, prepare suitable service plans and provide appropriate pre- and post-service advice. Training also develops effective communication skills, accurate record keeping and professional client care throughout every stage of the barbering service.

Hair Cutting Techniques

Training focuses on developing competence in men’s haircutting using a wide range of barbering techniques. Learners will perform clipper cutting, scissor cutting, blending, tapering, graduation, outlining and finishing while adapting services to suit different hair types, growth patterns and individual client requirements. Practical training develops accuracy, balance, precision and confidence in delivering professional barbering services.

Beard Grooming & Shaping

Learners will develop the practical skills required to cut, shape and maintain facial hair using professional barbering techniques. Training includes consultation, beard design, moustache shaping, clipper and scissor techniques, creating clean outlines and adapting services to complement individual facial features while maintaining client comfort and professional standards.

Hair Finishing & Styling

Learners will develop the ability to dry, style and finish men’s hair using appropriate barbering techniques and professional styling products. Optional specialist units also provide opportunities to develop additional practical skills including shaving services, hair colouring, waxing, styling and other barbering treatments depending on the learner’s chosen pathway.

Professional Practice

Learners will develop the professional behaviours expected within the barbering industry, including effective teamwork, time management, communication, client care, continuous professional development and maintaining high standards of personal presentation and workplace professionalism. The qualification also supports learners in developing the skills required for employment or progression within the barbering industry.

Entry Requirement

There are no formal prerequisite qualifications required to undertake this course. However, learners should have a good standard of literacy and communication skills together with an interest in barbering and professional client care.

Duration

This qualification consists of 498 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) and 660 Total Qualification Time (TQT).

The cost of the course is £2800.00, plus a £150 registration fee.

Upon successful completion of all required assessments and portfolio evidence, learners will receive the VTCT Skills Level 2 Diploma in Barbering.

KIT Required
