Health & Safety

Learners will develop the knowledge and practical skills required to maintain safe, hygienic and effective working practices within a barbering environment. Training covers hazard identification, risk assessment, infection prevention, personal hygiene, safe use of tools and equipment, emergency procedures, accident reporting, waste disposal and compliance with current health and safety legislation and salon policies.

Consultation & Client Care

Learners will develop professional consultation skills to identify client requirements through questioning, observation and appropriate testing. Training includes analysing hair and scalp characteristics, recognising influencing factors and contraindications, recommending suitable barbering services and products, maintaining accurate client records and providing professional advice before and after every service.

Hair Cutting Techniques

Training focuses on developing practical barbering skills using club cutting, freehand cutting, scissor-over-comb, clipper-over-comb and clipper techniques to produce a variety of graduated and layered men’s haircuts. Learners will develop confidence in creating accurate outlines, balanced shapes and professional finishes while adapting techniques to suit different hair types, curl classifications and client requirements.

Beard Grooming & Shaping

Learners will develop the practical skills required to create a variety of beard and moustache styles using professional barbering techniques. Training includes preparing the client, establishing guidelines, shaping facial hair, creating tapered beards, full beard outlines and moustache designs, while considering facial features, hair characteristics and providing suitable aftercare advice.

Hair Finishing & Styling

Learners will develop the ability to complete barbering services to a professional standard by refining haircut shapes, creating clean outlines, checking balance and symmetry, and providing suitable finishing advice. Training also focuses on recommending appropriate home care and maintenance to help clients maintain their chosen hairstyle and facial hair between appointments.

Professional Practice

Learners will develop the professional behaviours expected within the barbering industry, including effective communication, excellent client care, professional presentation, safe working practices, teamwork, time management and maintaining high standards of service throughout every stage of the client journey.

Entry Requirement

There are no formal prerequisite qualifications required to undertake this course. However, learners should have a good standard of literacy and communication skills together with an interest in barbering and professional client care.

Duration

This qualification consists of 137 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) and 160 Total Qualification Time (TQT).

Costs

The cost of the course is £2800.00, plus a £150 registration fee.

Qualification Awarded

Upon successful completion of all required assessments and portfolio evidence, learners will receive the VTCT Skills Level 2 Certificate in Barbering.
