Health & Safety

Learners will develop an understanding of professional health and safety responsibilities when responding to medical emergencies. Training includes scene safety, infection prevention and control, personal protective equipment (PPE), casualty assessment, safe emergency procedures and minimising risks to both the casualty and first aider.

Emergency Life Support Principles

Learners will gain the knowledge required to recognise life-threatening emergencies, assess an unresponsive casualty, perform adult basic life support, deliver effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), safely operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and manage severe anaphylactic reactions in accordance with current UK guidelines.

Casualty Assessment & Emergency Response

Learners will develop the practical skills required to assess emergency situations, identify signs of cardiac arrest or anaphylaxis, summon appropriate emergency assistance, prioritise casualty care and provide immediate life-saving treatment until professional medical help arrives.

Practical First Aid Skills

Practical training includes performing adult CPR, using an AED safely, placing an unconscious casualty into the recovery position, recognising and managing anaphylaxis, administering an adrenaline auto-injector and demonstrating safe, effective emergency response techniques through simulated scenarios.

Professional Practice

Learners will understand the importance of maintaining competence, following current Resuscitation Council (UK) guidance, recording incidents accurately, communicating effectively with emergency services and demonstrating professionalism and confidence during emergency situations.

Course Structure

This qualification consists of 1 mandatory unit. Learners must successfully complete the mandatory unit to achieve the full qualification.

Entry Requirement

There are no formal prerequisite qualifications required to undertake this course. However, learners must be 16 years of age or over, and the training centre will ensure they have the knowledge, understanding and ability to successfully complete the qualification.

Duration

This qualification consists of 3 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) and 4 Total Qualification Time (TQT).

Costs

The cost of the course is £400.00, plus a £150.00 registration fee.

Qualification Awarded

Upon successful completion of all required practical assessments and portfolio evidence, learners will receive the VTCT Skills Level 3 Award in Adult Basic Life Support, AED and Management of Anaphylaxis. The qualification is valid for 3 years, after which learners must successfully retake the qualification to remain certified.

KIT Required

Learners must attend all training sessions in professional attire appropriate to the training environment, consisting of a tunic (where applicable), black trousers and closed-toe shoes.

T&C

Course fees are non-refundable once enrolment has been confirmed. The VTCT qualification certificate will only be issued after successful completion of all required practical observations and portfolio evidence in accordance with VTCT Skills assessment requirements. The certificate remains valid for 3 years from the date of achievement.
