Health & Safety

Learners will develop the knowledge and leadership skills required to monitor health, safety and hygiene procedures within a professional barbering environment. Training covers workplace risk assessment, safe working practices, infection prevention, monitoring compliance with health and safety legislation, identifying hazards and ensuring safe working procedures are consistently maintained for clients, colleagues and visitors.

Consultation & Client Care

Learners will develop advanced consultation skills to identify client needs, analyse the hair, skin and scalp, recommend appropriate barbering services and agree personalised treatment plans. Training also develops professional communication, technical recommendations, client education, record keeping and comprehensive aftercare advice to achieve safe and successful service outcomes.

Hair Cutting Techniques

Training focuses on creatively cutting hair using a combination of advanced barbering techniques to produce personalised and individual looks. Learners will combine and adapt scissor, clipper and freehand techniques, work confidently on different hair types and textures, create bespoke finishes and provide professional styling recommendations to suit each client’s requirements.

Beard Grooming & Shaping

Learners will develop specialist skills in designing and creating a wide range of facial hair shapes using advanced barbering techniques. Training includes beard redesign, moustache styling, precision outlining, shaping and detailing while considering facial characteristics, hair growth patterns, skin condition and providing appropriate home care advice.

Hair Finishing & Styling

Learners will develop the ability to personalise completed barbering services using creative finishing techniques and professional styling products. Training focuses on refining bespoke looks, enhancing individual style, recommending suitable retail products and providing professional aftercare guidance to help clients maintain their haircut and facial hair between appointments.

Professional Practice

Learners will develop the professional behaviours expected of advanced barbers, including leadership in safe working practices, excellent client care, effective communication, commercial awareness and promoting additional services and retail products. The qualification supports the development of confident, competent practitioners capable of delivering high standards of professional barbering services.

Entry Requirement

There are no formal prerequisite qualifications required to undertake this course. However, learners should have previous barbering experience or suitable technical competence to successfully complete this advanced occupational qualification.

Duration

This qualification consists of 334–368 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) and 470 Total Qualification Time (TQT).

Costs

The cost of the course is £3500.00, plus a £150 registration fee.

Upon successful completion of all required assessments and portfolio evidence, learners will receive the VTCT Skills Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Barbering.

KIT Required
