Course Content
Health & Safety
Learners will understand professional salon health and safety requirements, including infection prevention, personal protective equipment, COSHH compliance, safe handling and storage of products, equipment safety, risk assessment, waste disposal, emergency procedures and maintaining a clean, hygienic and secure working environment.
Nail Anatomy & Treatment Principles
Learners will develop knowledge of the structure and functions of the skin and nails, nail growth, common nail conditions, contra-indications, contra-actions and the factors that affect the condition and appearance of the natural nails. They will also understand the products, tools and techniques used during manicure and pedicure services.
Client Consultation & Nail Analysis
Learners will develop effective consultation and communication skills to identify client requirements, assess the condition of the nails and surrounding skin, recognise contra-indications, agree suitable treatment objectives, obtain informed consent and prepare an appropriate treatment plan.
Practical Manicure & Pedicure Techniques
Practical training includes preparing the client and treatment area, removing existing nail finishes, filing and shaping the nails, cuticle care, buffing, exfoliation, skin treatments, hand and foot massage and applying suitable nail finishes. Learners will be required to perform treatments safely, hygienically and within professional service times.
Optional Nail Services & Salon Skills
Depending on the optional units selected, learners may develop additional skills in providing nail art, applying and maintaining nail enhancements, displaying retail stock to promote sales or working effectively with colleagues in a professional hair and beauty environment.
Treatment Aftercare & Professional Practice
Learners will provide suitable aftercare advice, recommend appropriate products and maintenance routines, explain possible contra-actions and advise clients on protecting and maintaining the condition of their hands, feet and natural nails. They will also maintain professional conduct, client confidentiality and accurate treatment records.

Course Structure
This qualification consists of 4 mandatory units and 4 available optional units. Learners must successfully complete all 4 mandatory units and select sufficient optional units to achieve a minimum of 5 optional credits and a total of 20 credits for the full qualification.
